Ironworld audit finds no problems

The Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm could be on its way to reopening.

An independent audit has found no evidence of fraud or financial mismanagement at the center, formerly known as Ironworld.

The relatively clean bill of health could help the center reopen.

The history and cultural center temporarily closed last November because of financial problems. Ironworld Development Corp. manages the center while Iron Range Resources owns the buildings that house the center and many of its collections.

The review did make recommendations to improve monitoring, control and communication of financial information.

Meanwhile, Iron Range Resources Commissioner Sandy Layman announced that the center's outstanding debts will soon be paid off by a $132,000 loan from the agency.
