Minneapolis chef wins Pork Board competition

A south Minneapolis chef has won the Minnesota Pork Board's annual Taste of Elegance competition.

David Vlach is sous chef at Heidi's Minneapolis. The judges awarded him first place for his recipe, Spiced Slow-Cooked Pork Shank with Gremolata and Black Beluga Lentil Tomato Stew.

Vlach received $1,500 and will represent the Minnesota Pork Board at the National Taste of Elegance this spring in Baltimore.

Tom Kavanaugh, co-owner and chef of Kavanaugh's Sylvan Lake Resort in East Gull Lake, earned second place and $1,000 for his recipe, an Italian-style bacon and eggs with pork liver sausage.

The competition took place ahead of the Minnesota Pork Congress in Minneapolis last month.
