Pawlenty to hold 2010 deer opener in Little Falls

The eighth annual Minnesota Governor's Deer Hunting Opener will be held in the Little Falls area Nov. 5-6.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty began the event in 2003 to showcase Minnesota's deer hunting heritage and the economic benefits to the state.

Wednesday's announcement cites figures showing Minnesota's nearly half-a-million deer hunters spend at least $260 million in retail sales every year and create nearly 5,300 jobs in greater Minnesota.

The governor's office also says the seven previous deer openers have raised thousands of dollars for wildlife habitat and conservation projects.

Pawlenty shot a buck in the Thief River Falls area on opening day last November, but was unable to find the wounded animal.
