St. Cloud school asked to return Petters donation

A St. Cloud high school has been asked to return more than $250,000 donated by convicted businessman Tom Petters.

Petters once attended Cathedral High School, a private Catholic school. The money was spent on installing an elevator to make a campus building handicap accessible.

Court-appointed receiver Doug Kelley is tracking money Petters donated. The St. Cloud Times reports Kelley sent a letter to Cathedral's board of directors regarding $252,900 that Petters gave to the school.

School President Michael Mullin says Petters' donation amounts to about 3.6 percent of the school's budget. The board plans to meet Jan. 28 to discuss what to do.

In December, a jury convicted Petters on 20 counts in a $3.5 billion fraud scheme. Petters' lawyers say they plan to appeal.
