Wisconsin lawmakers are considering setting up a special gun deer hunt for Wisconsin military members who missed the regular hunt in November because they were overseas.
State Rep. Chris Danou of Trempealeau is the chief sponsor of the bill. He says a special hunt is a great way to recognize more than 3,000 soldiers returning to Wisconsin this month and thank them for their service.
The State Journal reports the proposed legislation would create an additional gun deer season from Feb. 4 to Feb. 7, 2010.
Sgt. Kevin Johnson wrote to state lawmakers about the idea while serving in Iraq. He was deployed with the Wisconsin National Guard's 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
