St. Paul begins process to select new police chief

The city of St. Paul is starting the process of hiring a new police chief who will take over when Chief John Harrington retires June 30.

A committee has been formed to interview candidates and listen to input from the community.

The 22-member committee will begin meeting in February, and will hold two community meetings in late February for residents to offer their thoughts on what they'd like to see in a new chief.

The dates for the meetings haven't been scheduled.

Semi-finalist interviews are expected to take place in March and April, and then the committee will recommend five finalists to Mayor Chris Coleman. He plans to nominate a new chief in May.
