The St. Paul School Board will pick a new superintendent Monday night from a field of three finalists.

For the state's second-largest school district, the past two weeks have been a parade of interviews and re-interviews with candidates for the top job.

The decision comes down to three finalists, who all made their final pitches last week. They are Valeria Silva, the district's current Chief Academic Officer, Deb Henton, a former St. Paul administrator and current superintendent in North Branch, and Charles Hopson, the current deputy superintendent in Portland, Oregon.

The district is seeking a permanent replacement for Meria Carstarphen, who left this year to head the Austin, Texas school district.

The district has said it would like its new permanent superintendent in place by the end of 2009. The start date of whoever is picked will be ironed out during contract negotiations.
