When it comes to hunger and poverty, Republicans and Democrats running for governor share similar concerns.
But the candidates who participated in a gubernatorial forum on those issues today in St. Paul differed on how state government should respond. The event, sponsored by Hunger Solutions Minnesota, was the first time 2010 candidates from both parties shared a stage to discuss public policy.
The Democrats included Tom Bakk, Mark Dayton, Susan Gaertner, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, John Marty, Tom Rukavina and Paul Thissen. And most of them favored an increase in income taxes to pay for needed programs. Republicans Leslie Davis, Tom Emmer, Mike Jungbauer and Marty Seifert pushed for less government.
