Five of Minnesota's scenic byways will receive $500,000 in federal funding for improvements and promotion, the Federal Highway Administration announced on Friday.
The grants are part of the Federal Highway Administration's National Scenic Byways Program. The initiative provides funding for roads designated as having outstanding scenic, historic, cultural, natural, recreational and archaeological qualities.
The state's funding recipients include: the North Shore Scenic Drive, the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway, Grand Rounds--Mississippi Gorge Parking/Overlook, the Edge of the Wilderness Byway, and the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway.
Communities in 43 states will receive $40.7 million in scenic byway funding this year.
