State finance officials announced today that Minnesota has surpassed the $1 billion mark in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act spending.
Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Tom Hanson says the largest expenditures were in Medicaid services and transportation. The Minnesota Department of Transportation completed 24 construction projects with another 100 underway. An additional $440 million in contracts and grants have also been awarded and will be paid out as soon as the work is completed. Minnesota's estimated total from the federal stimulus is $4.7 billion
"We are making sure that every stimulus dollar is being used as quickly as possible and according to federal guidelines," Hanson said in a news release.
