The University of Minnesota is ready to formally dedicate the area in its new TCF Bank Stadium built to honor the state's veterans.
The dedication of the Veterans Tribute at TCF Bank Stadium on Friday evening will feature a fly over by replica airplanes from World War I, performances by the university marching band, the Metropolitan Boys Choir and others.
Military leaders will attend, including retired Gen. John Vessey, a former chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The area is in the southwest corner of the stadium and includes a tall curved wall, a bench, a plaza and a lighted inscription saying "thank you for our freedom."
On game days, a color guard there can raise a huge American flag up the stadium's 100-foot-tall flagpole.
