Minnesota school levy picture to firm up

The number of Minnesota school districts in the hunt for voter-approved classroom dollars is about to be finalized.

Districts had until Friday to notify county auditors and the Department of Education of fall election plans.

In August, the Minnesota School Boards Association identified more than five dozen districts either planning to go to voters or contemplating it.

Last year, there were 68 ballot questions seeking property tax levies for general classroom needs. Less than half were successful.

Some school districts also plan to ask voters to raise their property taxes for new or refurbished buildings.
