New firewood rules for Minn. national forests
Officials are implementing new rules on firewood used in Minnesota's national forests as a way of preventing the spread of the emerald ash borer and other invasive species.
The Superior National Forest and Chippewa National Forest said Friday campers can help stop the non-native pests from spreading by using firewood sources close to where they camp, so they don't have to transport it.
Among other controls, the new rules prohibit using firewood in the national forests if it comes from a non-certified vendor, or if it's from a state-quarantined county or county contiguous to a quarantined county.
