Troopers nab bicyclist on I-94

The State Patrol said troopers picked up a 25-year-old man this morning riding a bicycle along Interstate 94 during rush hour traffic.

The man, who has not been identified, was headed westbound from St. Paul to Minneapolis shortly after 7:30 a.m. when officials with the State Patrol managed to catch up with him, State Patrol Dispatch Officer John Hutchins said.

The bicyclist appeared to have some medical issues and was not headed for work, police said. He managed to stay on the road for about 5 miles, from about Cretin Avenue to Cedar Avenue.

The man was taken to the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and will likely not face any charges, Hutchins said.

"There's no crime," he said. "I think we're taking him out for his own safety."

Hutchins said spotting bicyclists on major highways is not completely uncommon, but officials warn against such biking practices because of the risk involved.
