Beef recalled in Midwest over possible E. coli

JBS Swift Beef Co. has recalled about 41,000 pounds of beef products because of possible E. coli contamination.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the Colorado-based company produced the products on April 21-22, and shipped them to distributors and retail establishments in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah.

A company spokesman said Thursday the recall is voluntary and no illnesses have been reported.

All the recalled beef is in boxes bearing "EST. 969" and packaging date codes of 042109 or 042209.

They have case codes of 21852, 21853, 31852, 31853, 33852, 33853, 41853, 41853, 79852, 79853 or 90853.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the problem through microbiological sampling, and an investigation in the distribution of other products.
