General James Conway, the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, speaks live at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. About 10,000 Marines have been deployed throughout Afghanistan in the past six weeks.

General Conway, who became the 34th Marine Corps Commandant in 2006, commanded the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force during two combat tours in Iraq.
