(AP) - St. Paul schools Superintendent Meria Carstarphen was formally offered the top job in the Austin, Texas, schools on Monday.
Three weeks ago she was named the only finalist for the superintendent's job there, but Texas law requires a waiting period before school boards can actually make a job offer.
The school board voted unanimously on Monday night to name Carstarphen the district's next superintendent.
Carstarphen says she'll remain in St. Paul through the end of this school year. She will leave about three years after taking the Minnesota job.

The district is in the middle of what it calls a large-scale system change - a complete review and overhaul of just about every aspect of the way the district is run.
Some school board members have said the system change will continue.
The St. Paul district must now decided whether to conduct a national search for her replacement, or hire locally.
