Minnesota Orchestra concertmaster Jorja Fleezanis will step down from her position in 2009.
Fleezanis is the longest tenured concertmaster in Minnesota Orchestra history, and will have served for 20 years when she steps down at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
Fleezanis told musicians at morning rehearsal she will become a professor of music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
When then-Minnesota Orchestra Director Edo de Waart appointed Fleezanis in 1989, she was only the second female concert master at a major U.S. orchestra.
In the years since, she has become renowned for her leadership, and her championing of lesser known works in the orchestra repertoire.
