Minnesota election officials are preparing for a statewide recount after a close finish in a primary race for state Supreme Court justice. Sitting Justice Lorie Gildea was the top vote getter in Tuesday's primary. But her two challengers were separated by less than one half of one percentage point. Unofficial returns showed Hennepin County District Court Judge Deborah Hedlund ahead of defense lawyer Jill Clark by 1,369. The top two finishers advance to the general election. The last time Minnesota had a statewide recount was in the 1962 governor's race. For a refresher on what happened, MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Tom Swain, who was then Chief of Staff for incumbent governor Elmer Anderson.
