The first ever "Welcome Week" at the University of Minnesota kicks off today. It's a six-day program of activities that this year's Freshmen are required to participate in.

The idea is to get these 5,000 students off to a good start and to ensure they are acclimated to the campus and college life in general.

Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer talked with Beth Lingren Clark, Director of Orientation and First Year Programs at the University of Minnesota.
