Bush makes disaster declaration for Minnesota

President Bush has issued a federal disaster declaration for Minnesota for four counties hit hard by flooding in the southeastern part of the state.

The declaration means that federal funding is available on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and repair or replacement of facilities in the counties of Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston and Mower. It follows a request made last week by Governor Tim Pawlenty for the area.

The governor had already declared a state of emergency for the four counties, where two waves of heavy rains this month caused flooding.

There is also federal funding available statewide for hazard mitigation measures.
