Twin Cities top most literate list

Minneapolis has topped a list of the most literate cities in America. St. Paul landed at number three on the list, which is part of a study by Central Connecticut State University.

Study author John Miller, who is president of the university, says St. Paul is a rising star on the list because it has moved up in the rankings every year since 2003.

Miller says Minneapolis and St. Paul have become more literate because newspaper readership has increased and both cities have good library systems.

Besides those two factors, the study looked at the number of bookstores, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment and Internet resources.

Only cities with populations of 250,000 or more were considered for the study.
