Minnesota Opera resident artist Jamie-Rose Guarrine is among the young hopefuls competing in the Metropolitan Opera regional auditions Saturday at the Ordway Center in St. Paul.
Up to three singers may advance to the National Semi-Finals in New York on March 25 and possibly the Grand Finals with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra on April 1.
Guarrine is a coloratura soprano from Peoria, Illinois. She's in her second season with the Minnesota Opera and sings the role of Susanna in Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" this May.
Guarrine tells Minnesota Public Radio host Steve Staruch that the Metropolitan Opera auditions are an important step in building a career.
