The groundbreaking for a Minneapolis memorial dedicated to survivors of sexual violence took place Wednesday at Boom Island State Park.

is the first of its kind in the nation, according to Break the Silence.

, an organization that advocates for survivors, was founded by Sarah Super. Sheand others approached the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board about the memorial and eventually raised enough money to fund the construction.

Super joined host Euan Kerr to talk about the memorial and its importance.
