A dry, frigid Arctic airmass persists through the weekend and into early next week. A slight warm-up is expected by mid-week, with temperatures rising back into the 30s.
Bundle up… brrr
Clear skies and northwest winds will bring some of the coldest temperatures of the season Friday night into the weekend.
Lows are expected to dip into the single digits above zero across eastern Minnesota, while western Minnesota could see temperatures fall into the single digits below zero.
A frigid forecast as wind chill values drop below zero across the state with those northwest winds gusting over 20 mph.
Saturday’s high temperatures will see only a modest recovery, with most areas reaching the teens. Some locations around the Red River Valley may struggle to break into the single digits for highs. Factor in another day of northwest winds and we have “feels like” temperatures in the sub-zero range.
The weekend forecast looks quiet, with bright Arctic sunshine and cold temperatures. However, next week brings an increasing chance for light snow as multiple clipper systems move through the region. The upside is that temperatures are expected to return closer to average, with highs in the 20s and 30s by mid-week. We'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out as we get closer.
