Here comes spring, Minnesota.

The season’s warmest air mass so far blows into towns, fields, and forests across Minnesota this weekend. This will be the warmest weekend in Minnesota in more than six months. The weekend of Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2023, produced highs of 88 and 92 degrees in the Twin Cities.

The warming trend begins subtly on Friday afternoon. Highs will reach the 60s from around the Twin Cities to points south and west.

By Saturday, potent April sunshine will boost temperatures into the balmy 70s across much of Minnesota with mainly 60s north. Bank thermometers will likely flash 80 degrees around Redwood Falls and other towns in southwestern Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday brings similar warmth as much of Minnesota basks in 70s once again.

Soaking rain next week

For once, the timing of warmth and rainfall works out well for the weekend. A slowly moving soggy storm crawls into Minnesota by next Tuesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model is similar to many that drag widespread rain and embedded thunderstorms into Minnesota surrounding next Tuesday.

Many forecast models suggest another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall next week.

That should help further ease the drought conditions across Minnesota.
