Weekend weather: Windy with coolest temps Sunday

Light snow in parts of northern Minnesota Saturday

Our weekend temperatures will trend downward. Some spots up north will see some snow. It’ll feel like March.

Weekend temps and winds

Gusty winds are expected this weekend, with the strongest winds on Saturday. Temps will feel Marchlike, with a lot of 30s and 40s.

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 42 degrees on March 16. The Twin Cities could have a temperature in the upper 40s at 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. Saturday, then falling temps through midmorning with a recovery to the mid 40s Saturday afternoon.

Northern Minnesota will see a lot of 30s Saturday afternoon, with 40s in central and southern Minnesota. Here are forecast temps for 4 p.m. on Saturday:

Saturday afternoon wind gusts will be in the 30 to 35 mph range in much of Minnesota:

Some spots could see wind gusts to 40 mph at times.

Sunday high temperatures will be in the 30s across southern and central Minnesota, with 20s to the north:

Saturday flake chance north

Patchy rain showers are possible in portions of northwestern and north-central Minnesota Friday afternoon.

The rain showers could mix with snow showers across far northern Minnesota Friday evening, then periods of snow showers are possible in northern Minnesota late Friday night and Saturday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday:

Snow accumulations of 1 inch or less are possible in far northern Minnesota Friday night and Saturday. Some spots near the Canadian border could see more than 1 inch of snow this weekend.
