Still mild Tuesday but slightly cooler; potential precipitation Thursday

Cooler air is flowing across Minnesota Tuesday but we’ll still be about 15 to 25 degrees above normal. Hopeful moisture could be moving into southern Minnesota for Thursday.

Still very mild Tuesday but slightly cooler 

We’ll see another day with sunshine through a few high clouds Tuesday. Cooler air is slowly moving across the state but we’ll still see highs in the 60s south and mostly 50s north. Those readings are still 15 to 25 degrees above normal. 

There will again be an elevated fire threat for southern Minnesota with afternoon relative humidity values falling under 20 percent in some spots though winds will fortunately be relatively light.

The lighter winds will keep conditions beneath official red flag criteria where relative humidity under 25 percent and winds of 20 mph or higher are required.

Overnight lows will be relatively mild, mostly in the 30s and 40s with some places in northern Minnesota in the 20s.

Wednesday will still be near 60 in the Twin Cities with low to mid-60s in far southern Minnesota but 40s will become more widespread north. Clouds will also increase through the day Wednesday. 

A storm system, centered south of Minnesota by Thursday, will develop rain showers into southern Minnesota Wednesday night into Thursday and Thursday night.

It’s looking hopeful that southern Minnesota could see some significant rainfall. The Twin Cities will likely be the northern edge of the bulk of the rainfall with some locations in far southern Minnesota receiving an inch or more even in isolated spots.

The rain could mix with or turn to snow Thursday night as it gets colder. The models are mixed in terms of where the snow develops, how much and where but we’ll need to watch it over the next 24 hours.

We’re then set up for a cooler pattern heading into the weekend with highs just in the 40s, 30s and even 20s north by Sunday into early next week.
