Cold and wind are the themes for Wednesday. Winds will blow from the northwest at 15-25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Wind chills will be in the single digits east and subzero west. Overnight Wednesday night will bring temperatures into the single digits for most. Thursday and Friday will be warmer but more snow is possible late Friday into Friday night.

Cold, windy Wednesday but becoming brighter

Behind the snowfall, we have cold winds blowing Wednesday. The gusty northwest winds at 15-25 mph with higher gusts, will definitely make it feel brisk and blow around the fresh snow in open areas.

High temperatures will only be in the teens and low 20s but we should see sunshine break out for the afternoon after lingering clouds dissipate.

The winds will make it feel more like it’s subzero west and just barely above zero in the east. Temperatures will dip into the low teens in the Twin Cities overnight Wednesday night but most places will see single digits and even single digits below zero in northwest Minnesota.

Milder Thursday and Friday, more snow?

High temperature rebound to the low 30s Thursday in southern Minnesota with 20s north. Friday will be even warmer with highs in the low 40s south but there will be quite the temperature contrast setting up with only teens and 20s north.

The sharp temperature difference will play into the next system that will already bring more snow to northern Minnesota late Friday and even to central Minnesota Friday night. This time the significant snow will likely fall in northern Minnesota, areas missed by the recent snowfall.
