Woman dies in St. Paul shooting

A woman died early Saturday after being shot in St. Paul's North End neighborhood. Later in the day a man was arrested in connection with the homicide.

Police said a 911 caller reported hearing an argument and a gunshot just after midnight on the 40 block of Lyton Place.

"Officers rushed to the scene and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk outside of a house," police reported in a news release. "The officers rendered aid, secured the scene and called in St. Paul Fire medics, who pronounced the woman dead a short time after their arrival."

Two men inside the home were questioned by investigators. St. Paul police later said a 35-year-old St. Paul man had been arrested on suspicion of homicide.

Authorities said they don't believe it was a random incident.

The victim's name has not yet been released. It's the fourth homicide of the year in St. Paul.
