Fall color update for leaf-peepers
It was definitely jacket weather this morning!
Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin saw Saturday morning lows in the 30s. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported a low of 38 degrees. Our official Twin Cities low temp has not dropped to 32 degrees or colder so far this fall.
Our average Twin Cities high temp is 58 degrees this time of year. A few spots in the metro area could top 60 degrees at some point Saturday afternoon. Southern Minnesota and much of western Wisconsin will see Saturday highs from 60 to the lower 60s, with 50s in much of northern Minnesota. It’ll be breezy this afternoon.

Low temps late Saturday night and early Sunday will be in the 30s across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Check later forecasts to see if any frost advisories are issued.

Sunday highs will be in the 60s across most areas, with lower 70s in parts of southwestern Minnesota:
Winds will be lighter on Sunday.
Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 70s Monday and Tuesday, followed by mid 60s on Wednesday. Temps will be cooler to end the week, with highs in the mid 50s Thursday and Friday.
Next weekend and the following week may feature above-normal temps. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and western Wisconsin from Oct. 23 through Oct. 29:
Rain chances?
This weekend and the start of next week look dry. An approaching low pressure system could bring scattered showers to Minnesota and western Wisconsin Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening.
Fall color update
The latest fall color report from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shows colors past peak in the dark-red shaded areas of northern and central Minnesota:
The percentage of changeover to fall colors is between 75% and 100% in the medium-red shaded areas, including parts of the west metro.
Keep in mind that all deciduous trees are included in the fall color report, not just maples.

Weather nugget
Our Twin Cities record high for Oct. 16 is 86 degrees, set back in 1938. The coldest high temp we’ve seen on this date was 32 degrees, in 1952….our Twin Cities low temp that morning was 23 degrees.
