Crisp, beautiful October weekend ahead; 70s again Monday
October is running 10 degrees warmer than average so far. Mild air returns by Sunday.
Finally, October.
Temperatures Friday afternoon hovered around a brisk 54 degrees in the Twin Cities, with 40s common in northern Minnesota. Our brisk October air mass intrusion has finally shoved the 80s of summer well south into the southeast U.S.
Friday was the first below-average day in three weeks for Minnesota.
So far, October is running around 10 degrees warmer than average in the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota. Warm colors abound on the October temperatures departure map for the Upper Midwest.

Classic October weekend
What makes a classic mid-October weekend in Minnesota? A little frost. Crisp mornings and milder afternoons. That’s the setup this weekend across Minnesota.
I’ve detailed Saturday morning’s widespread frost and freeze warnings in my earlier post Friday. Temperatures recover Saturday afternoon into the 50s to low 60s.
Sunday brings the milder afternoon this weekend. Highs should kiss 70 degrees in southwest Minnesota, with most of us in the 60s.
Highs in the lower 70s grace southern Minnesota Monday and Tuesday.
Cold front late next week
Wednesday brings a chance of rain to southern Minnesota. Then a cold front drives another shot of colder Canadian air south late next week.
Highs will hover in the 40s and 50s late next week.
Overnight lows will dip into the 30s once again across most of Minnesota by late next week.
The American GFS model hints at a possible storm the weekend of Halloween. Right now it suggests mostly rain, with snow possible up north. Hmmm.
