Storms favored opposite corners of Minnesota Monday afternoon.
A line of strong to severe thunderstorms toppled trees and triggered power outages over 3,000 customers in the Tower and Ely areas.
Strong storms ripped through northeast Minnesota Monday afternoon. The Lake Vermillion area appears to be hard hit with down trees and power lines.

Southwest Minnesota storms
Minnesota is a tall state on the weather maps.
It’s about 446 miles from Grand Portage in the northeast tip of Minnesota to Luverne in the southwest corner. Scattered thunderstorms are ongoing in southwest Minnesota as of this post late Monday.

Our hot July continues through at least midweek. The Twin Cities is already running more than 7 degrees warmer than average this month. Wednesday will be the hottest day for the rest of this week. More scattered storms and highs in the 90s return.
The severe storms risk returns Wednesday to much of Minnesota.
