Lovely Monday; humidity and scattered storms Tuesday

While most of the wind damage very early on Sunday was caused by a strong convective system across southern Minnesota, some trees in the Twin Cities area were damaged as well. Heavy rain and blustery wind conspired to bring this large branch down in Minneapolis.

For Monday, we can continue to enjoy the high pressure that arrived after the storms on Sunday. Look for mostly sunny skies except for cloudiness and isolated showers near Canada.

Temperatures will be a bit higher with highs from the upper 70s north to the mid 80s in the south. The Twin Cities should hit about 82. Dew points will remain quite comfortable.

Here is the forecast for the northeastern portion of the state:

Storms approach from the Dakotas Monday night

Humid on Tuesday with storms

Tuesday will be a warm and humid day ahead of a cold front that will slide southeast across the state. High temperatures will be cooler in the 70s in the northwest behind the front but warm into the muggy mid-80s in the southeast.

Scattered thunderstorms might build into a line progressing southeastward across the state after daybreak on Tuesday and bring the Twin Cities area a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Some storms might be strong, but the better chance for severe weather will be to our south from Nebraska to Illinois.

Highs will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s on Wednesday. Thursday will be a few degrees warmer.

Unsettled Friday and weekend — with humidity

Warmer air and more moisture will work into our area beginning on Friday.

Unsettled atmospheric conditions will likely trigger some periods of showers and storms from Friday through Sunday but just when those might break out is quite uncertain.

Of greater certainty is that dew points will climb into 60s for much of Minnesota this weekend. Western and southern Minnesota could easily see sultry dew points in the low 70s by Sunday afternoon.
