More than 2 thousand homes in Montrose and Waverly were without natural gas Tuesday night after a construction crew accidentally halted service.
Local schools and community centers opened their doors to those who lost their heat on one of the coldest nights so far this winter.
Xcel Energy repair crews worked through the night to restore service, according to Randy Fordice, a spokesman for Xcel Energy.
"Last night when we realized the scope of the situation we brought in crews from other parts of the state," he said. "So right now, as of early this morning we have 20 employees currently working out there and we'll have another 40 employees out by mid-morning."
Roughly a thousand customers were still without gas service early Wednesday morning, but Fordice says service should be back on by afternoon.
