Waves of rain

The lead waves of rain with our next weather maker focused on central and northern Minnesota. That's good news for morning and midday commuters in the Twin Cities.

Rain coverage with our inbound weather system increases to include the Twin Cities later this afternoon and tonight.

Our inbound system takes the northerly route today. But the overall strength of the system and the tropical connection remains impressive. Periods of rain will fall across central Minnesota and eventually the Twin Cities into Thursday. The system fades with time as a clearing trend kicks in by Friday.

The Twin Cities still lies on the southeast edge of the heavier rain forecast zone. I'm a little less bullish about multi-inch rainfall for the metro, but that is happening west and potentially north.

Summer weekend ahead

The clearing trend kicks in Friday. The weekend looks even more summer-like that it did yesterday. Plenty of sun and highs near 80 for the metro and southern Minnesota this weekend.  That's about 13 degrees warmer than the average high of 67 for the last weekend in September. Another slight shower chance creeps in late Sunday .

Summer into October?

The long range pattern still suggests unseasonably warm weather into the first days of October. A cold front may threaten frost by the end of the first week.
