As Arctic ice shrinks, climate worries grow
The extent of Arctic sea ice changes with the seasons, growing in the winter and shrinking in the summer. This year, it reached its maximum on March 15, and that maximum was the sixth smallest since satellites began measuring the ice. The 10 smallest maximums on record have all occurred within the last 10 years. Last year's minimum amount of Arctic sea ice, reached on Sept. 16, was the lowest on record.
So it may not seem surprising that changes in the ice are affecting our climate. MPR meteorologist Craig Edwards joins Kerri Miller to talk about the role the ice plays in our weather. Edwards and Miller will also touch on the rash of tornadoes in Midwestern states and the best thing to do if you're on the road when a tornado looms.
