How women can reclaim their power
Kasia Urbaniak spent nearly 20 years studying to become a Taoist nun in one of the oldest woman-led monasteries in China. To pay for her spiritual quest, she worked as a high-paid dominatrix in New York City.
It sounds jarring. But she found these seemingly paradoxical paths carried her to the same truth: Power is attainable, if women can learn how to wield their influence.
In 2013, Urbaniak started The Academy, a school that teaches women how to reclaim their power in the workforce, their families and wider communities. Out of that experience comes her new book, “Unbound: A Woman’s Guide to Power.”
Wednesday, MPR News host Kerri Miller talked with Urbaniak about how good-girl conditioning and “invisible labor” undermines women’s power, and how women can learn to own their influence.
